Tom Buttle
Communications Strategist
I started my career working with some of the most demanding communicators in the world - Google, Intel, DocuSign - turning complex technical products into narratives that resonated with customers, investors and employees. I trained leaders at Gartner. I facilitated an executive education programme at Stanford for a client.
But what shapes how I work today is what came after that. I led a management buyout, grew the business, and eventually sold it. I invested in a start-up that failed. I founded and built Candid Strategy. Those experiences mean I come to every client engagement with something most communications consultants can't offer: genuine commercial skin in the game.
I understand that messaging isn't an end in itself. It's a lever for business performance. And if it isn't doing commercial work, it's a cost, not an asset.
I work directly with leadership teams - not through layers of account management. What you get is a frank conversation, a structured process, and someone who is genuinely more interested in your results than in telling you what you want to hear.
I work by understanding the breadth of challenges and opportunities in your business. I bring that curiosity to every engagement.
I provide direct, targeted feedback. I don't confuse candour with rudeness.
I don't aim for good enough. I set aspirations that are proportionately challenging.
I don't want clients to stand on ceremony, and nor do I. I communicate like a person, not a textbook.
